Let’s Go Zero 2030
Building A Greener Future For Schools Across The UK
Climate Action Advisers, from Let’s Go Zero (part of the Barker Consortium), will visit each school involved in the Pathfinder, to empower teachers and pupils to take charge of their environmental impact and write climate action plans.
Let’s Go Zero 2030 is an inspiring national campaign aimed at empowering schools to take charge of their environmental impact and achieve zero carbon emissions by the year 2030. By working together, schools, parents, and pupils can create healthier, more sustainable learning environments and ensure a better future for everyone.
What Is Let’s Go Zero 2030?
Launched by the climate action charity Ashden, Let’s Go Zero 2030 brings together schools across the UK with one bold goal: reaching net-zero carbon emissions.
Schools are some of the largest public spaces in the country, so reducing their carbon footprint can make a huge difference. Let’s Go Zero gives schools the tools, guidance, and resources they need to cut emissions, helping them make meaningful changes across energy use, food, transportation, and waste.
Why Your School's Participation Matters
Every school in the Let’s Go Zero community is helping to build momentum for a cleaner, greener society. Together, participating schools save energy, reduce waste, and transition to more sustainable practices. With each step, students are learning hands-on skills for environmental stewardship, and parents can be proud to know their school is contributing to positive change.
How You Can Help As Parents And Pupils
Your involvement can help your school reach its Let’s Go Zero goals faster! Here’s how you can make a difference:
Stay Engaged: Learn about your school’s sustainability initiatives and participate in events, fundraisers, or awareness days.
Go Green At Home: Simple actions like reducing single-use plastics, conserving water, and recycling can make a big impact.
Walk Or Cycle to School: Whenever possible, choose walking, biking, or public transport over car journeys to help reduce your carbon footprint.
Get Involved In School Projects: Many Let’s Go Zero schools have eco-clubs or sustainability projects. Joining one can be a fun and meaningful way to learn more and help out.
How Schools Are Cutting Carbon Emissions
Energy Efficiency: Schools are improving energy use by switching to LED lighting, installing insulation, and even generating their own clean energy with solar panels. This reduces emissions and often cuts energy bills.
Sustainable Food Choices: Through Let’s Go Zero, schools are finding ways to offer more plant-based and locally sourced meals, which have a much lower carbon footprint than traditional options.
Eco-Friendly Transport: Let’s Go Zero encourages families to walk, cycle, or use public transport. Schools are also looking into ways to reduce emissions from buses and carpooling.
Recycling And Waste Reduction: Participating schools are reducing waste by increasing recycling efforts, using compostable materials, and educating students about the importance of waste management.
Together, we can help UK schools become zero carbon, building a brighter future for our children and our planet.
