Green Skills and Careers
Let’s Go Zero
On Wednesday 4 February 2026, Let’s Go Zero (part of Ashden Climate Change Charity) hosted an interactive online workshop exploring how schools can embed green skills and careers into careers education and the wider curriculum.
The session examined what green skills are, why they are increasingly important for pupils’ future employability, and how schools can support young people to access opportunities within the growing green economy. Participants gained practical guidance, real-world examples and actionable ideas to integrate green skills into teaching, careers programmes and whole-school planning.
The recording is now available for those who were unable to attend or would like to revisit the session.

Blue Marble
On Thursday 5th March, Blue Marble hosted an interactive online workshop exploring how protecting water resources can create exciting green career opportunities. Speakers from Blue Marble and Telex Water shared how schools are reducing water consumption through the Great British Energy Solar Partnership (GBESP), why water efficiency is becoming increasingly important due to water scarcity, and the range of sustainability and water-sector careers available to young people. The PowerPoint presentation from the session is available to view below:
BSI
On Wednesday 11th March BSI hosted an interactive online workshop and demonstrated how schools can use data and digital tools to better understand their buildings and support their journey towards Net Zero. This included an overview of how data collection has evolved, from basic information gathering to advanced tools such as BIM models, 2D plans, spreadsheets and interactive dashboards, and how these can improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
BSI also highlighted innovative examples, including how some schools have transformed BIM models into interactive Minecraft environments to engage students in a creative way. In addition, the session showcased a range of green career pathways, such as Reality Capture Technician, BIM Technician and School Capacity Consultant, and explored the growing role of IoT in creating smarter, more sustainable buildings.

Sharing Industry Insights with Young People
As part of our social value commitment to the GB Energy Solar Partnerships (GBESP) programme, the Barker Consortium is delivering a series of green skills and careers awareness activities with participating schools throughout the Spring term 2026.
These activities align with the programme’s energy reduction and decarbonisation objectives and are designed to support careers education around sustainability and the green economy, delivered by our expert industry partners. They include presentations, recordings of workshops and webinars, and resources to complement your school’s existing careers guidance activities.
