The Net Zero Accelerator Programme Pathfinder
A key initiative in the Government drive to reach net zero in education
We are on a mission to support schools in meeting the net zero challenge and help the next generation to lead the way in climate change action.
The Department for Education is investing in the first stage of this journey and has selected the Barker Consortium of net zero experts to work with 25 schools to deliver a pathfinder project which will create an exemplar model for schools across the country.
Why we are doing this
The funding will be used to make changes to school buildings to reduce energy and carbon emissions by improving heating and lighting efficiency, buying cheaper and greener energy, and for some schools improving insulation, converting lighting to LED and installing solar panels.
We will also be working with teachers and students to develop Climate Action Plans, setting out immediate changes to how school buildings are used, which will directly impact the reduction of energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Overseen by LocatED, the Government’s education property experts, we are working with schools within your authority to:
- Enable climate resilience by reducing harmful carbon emissions
- Make cost savings by reducing energy consumption
- Reduce waste inefficiency
- Create shared learning experiences on climate action change
Working in collaboration
The Net Zero Accelerator Programme is part of the Government’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, working with a range of partners including the National Education Nature Park, the Sustainability Support for Education Hub, Climate Ambassadors, and Let’s Go Zero as part of a coordinated mission.
The Net Zero Accelerator will help schools cut emissions, save energy, and improve your buildings.
